Changing password – original rejected yet still OK to log in

I am trying to change my password for the forums, but when I do so, the User Cotrol Panel rejects my existing password, despite it working just fine to log in to the forums in the first place.

Why would this happen, and is there anything I can do about it?

It is possible that a combination or part of the text being used is tripping the spam filters which, sadly, get regular attention to try to stop spammers from posting garbage.

Other than that, I can’t think of any reason.
