KeymasterHi,
I had been looking for an american style fridge freezer with ice and water dispenser for a while. I happened to get a fax (junk fax) sent through that had one listed for £399 as well as other cheap items. I logged onto the website for the first time about a month ago and sure enough it was there, a samsung model that currys had for £700 was £399. Anyhow, I didn’t order it right away but I checked the details, something from the work go rang alarm bells. Upon investigation I saw that apart from the initial advertising fax they ‘had’ a free easy setup website, the phone numbers were 0870 nondescript numbers, They had a free email account, the addresses listed didn’t have a postcode. So I went a bit further, called the number, It was like one of those answer services you can get where someone answers it but can only really take a message, I couldn’t get any detail from her regarding company reg number or a valid postcode, I got one but I couldn’t search on autoroute or streetmap for it. Also, the site specified delivery was included in the price, you couldn’t pick it up, I asked, and it was upto 28 days delivery. By this time I was sure something was a bit dodgy but the fridge was damn cheap. So I waited and today the site http://www.everythingelectrical.buzzsites.net/ is now suspended by the host.
So I did not order anything so didn’t loose anything (except the chance of a cheap fridge) but I wondered if anyone had ordered from these guys and if it a real business?
If it is a real business and its just a website temporary problem then I appologise.

KeymasterNever heard of them, but it sounds well dodgy to me as it would appear from your desciption that there’s nothing to instill any faith in the retailer at all.
I’d apply the old adage of, “If it seems too good to be true, then it probably is”, if you’re a regular net user you’ll know exactly what I mean. 😉

As a company we are trying to contact them, regarding their outstanding account for advertising. But the 0870 number is always answered by voicemail.

If there is a post code, let us have it. I have “GB Mailing” which is the thing that brings up addresses from postcodes, you know the same as you get when you phone for car insurance etc. Where the operative then can tell you where you live.
Chances are they could be using a mail drop or what is known as a 99 postcode which is totally non-descript. Looks very dodgy indeed.

PONTEFRACT
WEST YORKSHIRE WF8 2HG.I understand that our readers have placed orders and not received the goods yet, we have advised them to contact Trading Standards.

KeymasterWhich, with a quick look in Autoroute, is a residential address so I’d doubt very much that they had any stock at all, let alone stuff as bulky as a US Style fridge/freezer.
As Alex says, very dodgy indeed and to be avoided methinks.
From a web point of view the URL given is not a top level domain and therefore probably hosted, hence the suspension notice I should think. The site was built using the Site Builder software which is generic and leads nowhere. The “buzzsites” homepage also shows and error.
Extremely dody I’d say, but just for your infomation the hosting company for that URL is as follows.

Best bet is to leave it with Trading Standards I should think.

Don’t hold your breath, I tried on Thurs / Friday to contact Devon Trading Standards Office, 8 or 9 phone calls later each one giving me a number to ring I eventually ended up with the number advertised on their web site ready to start all over again. And they say our trade has problems. 😯

KeymasterHi all,
lots of replys here, the address and post code posted by AH is the one that I was given too. Had the same experience of the phone always going to voicemail also. I also checked autoroute, when I was considering ordering something from them I was going to drive by and check out the place, even though I was told I couldn’t pick up the goods I wanted to see the place, as I live in leeds it would have only been a 1/2 hour trip at most. When I saw where it was that made me more suspicious.
I really wish I’d have saved a copy of the website before it went off. It was done with the buzz sites site builder, http://www.startwiththis.com/ , Looks like this service was used because its very easy to setup a website, the everything electrical site looked very similar to the site builder site.
Everything I saw or found out about this site just screamed Scam. I should have posted something here sooner, I could have saved some people from ordering from them.

Royal Mail GB Mailing confirms private address, looks like it is a long road as well.
Sorry not good news.

🙁 I ordered a Hotpoint fridge freezer from this outfit and paid using a cc via Paypal. Del was advised to be about 3 weeks later. Nothing turned up and after several more promised deliveries-still no goods. Clearly they have now done a runner as there is only a voice message on their enquiry line. How do these unspeakable scoundrels get away with it?

sorry to hear that one born, that really sucks, when I was considering ordering from them I was thinking about paying by credit card so I had a bit of insurance against fraud via the card company.

ParticipantVery unfortunate for the above poster. If you have been caught in this, it is essential that the local police and Trading Standards are advised in order to build a full case against any perpetrator – otherwise in a few months time – new website, new phone numbers and away we go again!
If all victims of this complain, hopefully it will be stamped out!

This sort of thing sickens me on many levels.
For a start it gives out trade a bad name, as do the “cowboys” that are out there although that is a decreasing issue these days in light of more complex appliances. However, this sort of nonsense just perpetuates the image sadly.
It also does the internet traders that are genuine any favours at all. 🙁
In the spirit of that, or at least UKW trying in its own small way to combat it I have invited any retailers to post their details to us and we’ll add them to the web links section provided that they are genuine. We will check any that are submitted and, as far as we can, ensure that they are genuine retailers and not fly-by-night merchants out to rip you off.
I can assure you that there are a lot of good, solid retailers out there on the web offering really good deals but, as is the case here and as I said previously, the offer was so good as to be “too good to be true” often it transpires that it actually is too good to be true.
To let you understand, the margins on normal mass market appliances do not in any way, shape or form allow for massive discounting at all. In all honesty the best you can hope for is a good service and an honest price, bargains in this industry are rare without a catch of some kind.
