i know what i think —- cheap skate

but could be clever marketing

but what i dont get is

was in a house the other day there got to be 1million plus , electric gates , flash cars etc etc

and they have a pile of crap sub £200 washing machine

nice guy hes a sparky works hards

why why why – when you have an engineering background do you not know a sub £200 washing machine is going to be a pile of poooo

i see this all the time – people with engineering back grounds etc

i can only conclude they are cheap skates with a hint of cluelessness if thats a word

But Ally, you know the saying A fool and his money are soon parted He has no doubt wised up to the fact that investing in a sub £200 is far less of a financial risk than one twice or three times the price. Current statistic appear to show that cheap washing machines can last just as long. If you were to quote ‘BER’ into his ear he would no doubt conclude that his losses are marginal, then go online to Argos for a replacement.

I’m with Martin on this, you spend £180 on a Indesit 1200 chances are, under normal use, four years of clean laundry. Argos knocking out the Bush to thousands of cash strapped families and doing sterling service for them. all this for less than a quid a week. Even if they could afford to spend more would they? Why should they? The younger generation buy online and for the most part dont repair, they might look on youtube for a quick fix but if that fails to come up with the necessary its lob it out and replace (with free delivery) Top end fridges or cookers might still hold some measure of status but the mass market stuff is now no longer going to provide us with a living, it’s better made and cheaper than its predecessors. Think 25 years ago Hotpoint 95’s four hundred pounds plus to buy and yearly repairs carbons, boots, bearings, pumps, heaters, springs etc.

Expensive is dead long live the cheap disposable!!!!!!!!!!

Thank goodness for those older Which?-reading John Lewis-shopping customers who appreciate the refinement, performance and feel-good factor offered by mid-range and premium machines. That get the same type of satisfaction from investing in a superior brand of washing machine as they get from investing in the latest MacBook Pro, Dyson rechargeable vacuum cleaner or Range Rover Evoque. Those customers who don’t mind paying a little extra for good service and reward you with loyalty and repeat custom.

YEH YOU COULD ARGUE BOTH CASES

i guess the flip side is cheap machines keeps us busy, its the Bentley after sales expected and the sympathetic ear that can be challenging .

Oh how I remember the first time I saw John Cleese’s film ‘Who Sold You This Then?’ That was 42 years ago and this thread brings it all back. All you youngsters (if there are any in this trade?) that haven’t seen it best do so by going onto YouTube and check it out. :rotfl:
