    Hi all,

We’re moving house very soon, and are looking for appliances.

I’ve been looking at washing machines, and reading through a lot of threads on this forum – there’s loads of really good info on here, so thanks to all contributors!

We’re on a tight budget, so I was initially looking at second-hand, or manufacturer refurbished machines, to save as much money as possible, but am also considering cheap-ish new machines. Am open to suggestions and advice….

Although I’ve read mixed things about larger drums, we are a family of 4 and my son has allergies, including dust mites, so we’re looking for something big enough to wash all the bedding (preferably 8 to 10kgs)

A few we’re looking at are:

Zanussi ZWF144A2PW (this apparently doesn’t have a filter that can be emptied, is that gonna be a problem?)
    Beko WTL84121W
    SAMSUNG ecobubble WW90TA046AE/EU

At the moment, can get the first 2 new, and the 3rd one refurbished, for around £300 or less, which seems decent.

Any thoughts or advice would be appreciated in terms of reliability, longevity and how good they’ll be for a family of 4.

Other recommendations in the price range would be great too!

    Thanks in advance

I would go for the Beko everytime, spares are reasonably priced and readily available and the machines are easy to work on. As for load capacity I would not go over 8kg.

The Beko WTL84151W at £299.00 at John Lewis is a good bet and buying from them gives you an extra year warranty as well.

Thank you for the quick reply, much appreciated.

Regarding the capacity question, one of our main reasons was to be able to wash duvets, rugs etc because of my son’s allergies.

In your opinion, do the negatives of a larger drum (over 8kg) outweigh those potential benefits?

There is a great article here which explains load sizes far better than I ever could.

A duvet in a domestic washing machine just soaks up the small amount of water current energy efficient machines use.
