ParticipantDoes anyone use Check a trade ?
Got a friend who runs a heating and plumbing business who signed up with them recently and he reports that he is getting a lot of work from it even though he is one of about six such companies registered with Check a trade in his area. Checking the Check a trade directory for the post codes I operate in there are no white goods repairers listed.
Always cautious with these Directory type things

Loads of threads on this. In 2014 it got the thumbs down from the usual suspects. 😉
It’s based entirely on good review feedback from your customers. All reviews are closely vetted before being published so little chance of false stuff being published. Membership is costly and, as you note, overall few appliance repairers choose to join. (Got three in my patch spread over 25 miles).
In order to gain extra work then, IMO, Checkatrade are a no no.

Thanks Martin, thing is my view is that for customers who are planning say a new bathroom, new heating system then they might take time to look around for a tradesman and the job values are far higher. With our trade its a reactionary situation with lower job values hence why I think the model wouldnt work for us.

Why not use all the free sites online.
Freeindex gives you almost like a webpage if you do not have a website and the more reviews you get the higher up the search engine list you go.
Yell, Hotfrog, plus many others give free listings plus once the pick up on you lots of freesites pick up on it and list you.
If you have a website put a link for the WTA on it and every time you make a post the web will pick up on it.
Every couple of weeks make slight changes to your free pages and it keeps you up the listing.
If you use the same phrase like makes / Manufacturers machines you repair three time e.g. Make three times or Manfactures thee times in your free advert the search engines pick this up.
Look for tips on how search engines find you and you will soon end up on top of the search.
I have now retired but when people search for fridge repairs, cooker repairs in the areas I covered I was nearly always top of the list without paying.
It may take a couple of Months but you will soon get to the top so why pay to advertise.
Check A Trade does not give a good example as you pay to advertise so you are unlikely to get many bad reviews as you are a paying customer.
If it is a free listing then you get a better view of what your business is like.

Been a member since 2013, works well for me
40{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of my calls are generated by it.
I am the only one in the area though.( the next guy is 25 miles away.)
As far as cost- you get what you pay for !!
