ParticipantHi
I have acquired a Valera ZS 530 commercial chest freezer. It is 442L built 2003. It has a Danfoss NL11F compressor.I would like to change out the thermostat to run it at +3-5C. The capillary goes about 30cm into a tube in the insulation at the front of the unit.
Having read the very useful article here http://www.ukwhitegoods.co.uk/help/fix-it-yourself/spare-parts/2946-fridge-a-freezer-thermostats.html I am still confused as to the correct choice of thermostat, any input greatfully received.
Thanks !

It’s not designed to do that as in, the freezer isn’t. So it won’t have a defrost element which most fridges will or, have a defrost cycle in the stat.
So that means a manual defrost and all you really want to do in that case is to have the unit cycle and, in any event, it’ll require a bit of clever modification.
My first thought would be a VT9 thermostat which is for a fridge with a defrost element really, the VX0 is designed for a “wet wall” fridge or fridge freezer. But, with a little thought I’d probably use a VP4 for that as it’s pretty close to what you want if I read it correctly, a big chest fridge with a manual defrost.
It will be trial and error in getting the temperature to be correct though regardless of what one is used but, I’d think you’d have a better chance with a VP4. That thermostat can be found here.

Installed the VP4 (a real Ranco one!), and it does a great job of keeping it between -5 and -3 even at it’s warmest setting .
There are 2 screws on the unit one close and one recessed – these look like they are adjusters but cant find any information on them? I placed the cap back in exactly the same place as the freezer stat.
Thanks for your help!May 28, 2011 at 4:21 pm #351913polarity

Ok so I put 4 turns CW on each screw, that seems to have brought it up to +2/+5 but I will see after it settles down a bit! Looks like the close screw on the left (with spindle up) seems to be the compressor off and the one on the RHS the on. Though that could be wrong!
