Child Lock Hotpoint NSWR 743U WK UK – can’t deactivate child lock

My elderly neighbour has a Hotpoint NSWR 743U WK UK and can’t do anything with the machine as (it appears) the child lock has been activated. As far as I can see it should be a simple matter of pressing the child lock ‘key’ button for 2 seconds to remove the child lock, but this doesn’t do anything. Neither does unplugging the machine from the wall. Any suggestions please! Is there a way to reset it?

assume you tried holding button a bit longer

is the door open ? ie making sure the door can be open and closed

Yep, held the button for quite a while. The door is closed and it opens a closes fine. Do you know of some secret engineer’s button sequence that will reset and clear the issue?

how old is it ?

I’m not sure on its age, but I imagine it to be a couple of years old, perhaps?

update to this…Hotpoint were called, engineer came out, had a fiddle, declared the child lock was on, deactivated it and left. I don’t know what he actually did, but several people, including myself, tried to deactivate the child lock but had no luck – makes me somewhat suspicious.
