Does anybody know if there is such a thing as an edging or frame that can be fitted under a hob to disguise a chip which happened when i removed a hob to replace an element, the customer is happy to do this if i can find something, other than that i thought i might try a sheet metal worker and see if he could do me some thing for me. About 1/2″ from the edge, just looking at worktop edging strips, was wondering if i got a joiner friend to mitre and fit for me, if that would be acceptable.

There is a company that was featured on here a few years ago who can repair stuff like that. I chipped my bath and had them out. They were fairly expensive £120 if i remember. but cheaper than a new bath! Be dammed if i can remember the name now though. ill have a little look see if i can find them.

Is run by a friend of mine, so I declare an interest.

But, what they do is magical.

Just had one recently where a certain person who will remain nameless (not me) dropped bits on a worktop and also smacked a fridge door.

Usual from the customer, it won’t work, you can’t repair it, I need a new worktop and fridge door… you know the rant.

Anyway, dude from Plastic Surgeon pops out and sorts both first time.

Customer even mailed in to say that she was completely satisfied with the repairs!

It may not work 100{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} but I’ve yet to come across one where these guys fail.

hob with crappy spring clips on the edges instead of screwed brackets underneath? asking for trouble expecially after a bit of spilt water and grease has soaked into the chipboard. Had a really nasty one of these a few years back, luckily it was a written off hob anyway and found the Smeg ones are about a cm or so wider on top so it managed to cover the damage. Customer saw it happen and admitted there was nothing I could of done to stop it. Very wary of these now though.

And if not will they be satisfied enough that you fixed their hob or will they be after you for the cost of the damage as well?

The Jury’s out on that at the moment Martin, oh how i wish i’d followed my gut instinct to bodyswerve it but he was determined he wanted it fixed so i’ll have to suck it and see at the moment.

    Re: Chipped worktop

Think it should all work out all right , got talking to a mate i havent seen in ages he is going to to make a stainless a skirt to go around the hob to hide the chips customer is happy with that, he doesnt want a bean for doing it only stipulation is i go to his stag day/night, i wonder how many times this has happened i would have thought there was a gap in the market for somebody to come up with something like this.
