ModeratorI have just had to make a recall to another ISE CI555WH that was repaired whilst I was on holiday two weeks ago. The customer has been away herself so has only just got round to phoning me.
The engineer who called ( not going to name them ) 😉 fitted a set of motor brushes. When he then tested the machine he could not open the door after he had finished his test.
He fiddled around with the controls a bit then told the customer he had forgotten to reset something or words to that effect, opened the door and left.Since his visit the customer has been unable to open the door at the end of the cycle as normal. She found that she had to switch off the machine with the On/Off switch and then wait for the door to release. She also had problems getting the machine to start again.
I called this morning after asking her to set the machine to a rinse & spin programme 20 minutes before I was due to arrive.
When I got there it was on its final spin and was making a dreadful noise, obviously coming from the motor brushes. It was that bad that under normal circumstances I would have switched it off at once. As I needed to check out the doorlock problem I allowed it to continue.
At the end of the cycle the pump & motor switched off, the Start & Spin light stayed on but I heard the door unlock ( it did open). I closed the door and after around 40 seconds the lights went out and the door was heard to lock again and would not release. Eventually I switched the machine off with the On/Off switch and after the prescribed interval the door opened.
As this fault only occurred after the repair I surmised that somehow the excessive arcing from the brushes must be corrupting the PCB.
I replaced the motor complete, ran on a full spin cycle and at the end the motor & pump stopped, after around 1 minute the lights went out and the door unlocked.
On inspecting the displaced motor I found that it had been fitted with the sub standard pattern brushes we were specifically instructed not to use.
I hope that this will enforce the need to make sure that you only fit the genuine brushes and also help if you get a strange door lock fault.
Jim.
