3 or 4 weeks ago, I recall, some agency that represents multi-national unisex hairdressing salons wants me to fix a Bosch tumble dryer in the town centre? At the time and once I’d sussed the location I told them that as it was a pedestrianised part of town and no chance of parking within the area without using a multistorey car park. I suggested they try someone else…goodbye!

Since that time I’ve had no less than 3 calls from them still asking for help as no-one else locally (even BSH) is interested in undertaking the work and they are desperate?

At one stage I suggested that if they can uplift the machine and bring it to me? Then perhaps I could sort it for them? Lo and behold yesterday the lady rang me again to say City Link are collecting it and she wanted to confirm my address to deliver it to?

So the mountain can come to mohammed after all it seems? :rotl:

I can’t charge a ‘call-out fee’ but can I charge a ‘storage fee’ when it turns up I wonder? 😉

Why did you not just do it at a premium charge to cover time and car parking? They are obviously that desperate I am sure they would have paid whatever you wanted.

Not a hope in hell mate! I did that once at a (believe it or not?) call in the town centre for Lloyds Bank no less. Crappy Indesit dishwasher in their staff kitchen it was. I used the Queens Road multi-storey, walked for miles armed with toolbox etc. Had to go back to van twice for spares etc….bl**dy nightmare!!

I swore then ‘no more’….besides, in the time it takes to fuff around on a cr$p call like that I can do 4 normal calls and earn double the money in the effort. 😉

Besides, this way it looks as though my system will pay a premium without me even starting the van up….. 😆

I agree with martin. I have done this before rang customer in the morning to confirm that I was coming and give a eta, then rang when on way saying see you in 30 minutes only to get there to find after parking and walking half way across town that the machine had been scrapped by owner day before. Parking time 15 minutes to find space, 10 minute walk there £3.50 parking and what for sweet fa 👿 So now sorry thanks but no thanks.

Horses for courses I suppose ,I am picking up more and more agency work ,seems like you do a good job for one and when they talk to each other your name gets passed around .
I have done hairdressers ,and offices in pedestrianised areas ,I always get them to e-mail me a works order with a pre determined BER limit so there is very little hassle with quoting etc, park as near as poss add the cost of the ticket to the bill and and my labour starts from the moment I leave the van so they pay for me to walk there and back.I also carry a small tool wallet with the basics in for fault finding ,saves me lugging the full toolbox .

Had to do an airside job at stansted airport for a certain WP who paid for a whole mornings work and car parking fees. Had to take passport and go through security and have an escort! I requested good accurate model and fault information and got it right first time, (pump on a wpl top loader) still took the best part of 3 hours from parking to returning to van. They agreed to pay any second visit charge at the same rate so I wasnt bothered.
Hey Martin, wont it be a laugh if its just a quick press of the rest button! 😆
