ParticipantI’ve inherited a new world 444447228 oven.

It is quite dirty.
The instructions say clean with soapy water and a soft sponge.
This guy though says you can use a brillo pad!

I always think they play safe in instructions, I don’t think mere soapy water will get the gunk off.
Would the best option be to put a bowl of steaming water in there for a bit to loosen gunk, then apply a regular oven cleaner (something like cif) and brillo it, Soak the glass and shelves overnight in washing powder and do the rest round the knobs with a toothbrush?
Also it says don’t wash the ceramic hob with soapy water as the film can discolour it, but surely if I rinse it well it’ll be OK? (there’s one hob quite discoloured already, dunno if there’s anything you can do about that)
Also as preventative for future a teflon liner on the floor and on the walls a thin paste of bicarbonate of soda and water “which dries leaving a protective coating that absorbs greasy soiling and makes it easier to clean next time.”
Anyone tried that?
Cheers.

Nothing wrong with a Brillo pad and elbow grease!
The instructions seem informative and logical for the most part. There are many brands of propriety oven cleaners on the market you can also use very effectively. Do read the instructions very carefully though before you start. Likewise there are cleaning agents specifically designed for cleaning ceramic hobs too. Lakeland (of Windermere) have several useful products you could use very effectively indeed.
Don’t fancy the hassle?…….then call in a local Cookerburra oven cleaning company ( other companies also available locally) who do a great job for you! 😀 😉

Cheers. There’s a thin silver rod at the back of the oven, I assume that’s the thermostat? I got some oven cleaner on that but wiped it off so hope it’s OK.

DO NOT TOUCH OR CLEAN THAT….!
The “silver rod” is indeed the capillary to the oven thermostat and should be left well alone. It is never regarded as necessary to clean that however dirty it may appear. 😀
