ParticipantWe do a limited amount of washing machine refurbishment and have found the answer to rejuvenating most parts of a machine … but one thing has so far defeated us …. we can’t find anything that will remove concreted powder residues from the soap drawers and housings.
Normal descalers won’t touch it because it isn’t limescale and the Lever Brothers / Proctor and Gamble helplines were no use at all. Anybody know the answer – preferably not involving pneumatic drills 😯August 17, 2006 at 2:01 pm #185501Martin

Immersing in a solution of Sodium hydroxide (caustic soda) will shift it, but don’t insert the whole drawer as it can take the surface print off!

Thanks Martin! Will give that a try – just been reading your tale of bespoke kitchen woe… very amusing, and so true!

Out test soap drawer has now been soaking in a VERY strong solution of Caustic Soda since last thursday, but the hard deposits remain stubbornly unmoved …… there was some obvious chemical action initially, but despite refreshing and concentrating the solution, it hasn’t really touched the main deposits.
Does anyone have any other ideas?

Thanks ** philfish ** you are a star !!
Our local Travis Perkins had “Brick Acid” (patio cleaner) in 5L bottles for £8.99+VAT and as we speak, soap drawers are fizzing their way to cleanliness 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀August 23, 2006 at 3:36 pm #185507philfish
