I would be very grateful for your help.

I have a Candy CCV 120G upright freezer kept in an unheated utility room. Recently I noticed the temperature warning light had started to come on and food not freezing fully. The evaporator coils inside were heavily frosted up, particularly on the left side of the top coil (where the evaporator enters the compartment I think).

I thought this was a simple overfrost problem so emptied and defrosted the unit for about 12 hours until the ice had come away (?perhaps not long enough). I swtiched back on and this morning still no freezing action. I have pulled out the unit and at the back on the compressor (which was hot) I noticed the part which condenses the gas was very cold, and the thin wire leading to the evaporator was heavily coated in ice. Should I continue to leave for another 48 hours or so until this has all gone and retry? Or is there a more serious problem.

    Many thanks

    Alan

    hi alan
i am afraid your refrigeration system has become blocked, but before you call an engineer or decide to replace the appliance move the freezer to a normal household temperature for 24 hours before switching the appliance back on, you my be lucky and free the blockage. 😀

Sounds like a blockage there, Alan. No easy fix i am affraid. Need an engineer to attempt repair but even that cannot be Guaranteed.

Many thanks for the prompt advice. I will try leaving it in warm room as suggested. Certainly worth a try!

    Best wishes
