Had a call today from a lady asking if i could go and take out her built in dishwasher as the engineer said he could not do that due to him being liable if anything was damaged when he removed it, is this correct for built in appliances

    Yes.

If you damage anything on removal then you are liable and no disclaimer would stand up as you are supposed to be either able to take it out safely or, know when not to due to danger of damage.

    Same applies for lino etc.

Its judged on each call, has been for decades in this industry, if in doubt don’t do it.

Even if your self employed it’ll cost you to put any damage right.

I have known a cupboard scratch cause all the fronts to be replaced, to the clients requirements because the damaged door could not be matched as it was to old.

    surely you mean ‘oncall’?

anyway.. imagine the scenario… damage a 5yr old mfi door?

its happened, and its not pretty, the bills can be high
