Hi Dev: Why ? How many in the White goods trade go into the Commercial side ? Might be wrong but I don’t think there’s that many.

I am one of a few who do catering equipment and whitegoods.
I have never found any forums like ukwg for catering or commercial laundry.May 25, 2013 at 2:55 pm #395498Specialist01269

That’s the question Ken, maybe worth a poll to find out ? My main concern though is the safety aspect, a lot of Catering equipment & Commercial appliances are run on 3 Phase.

It wouldn’t……. Trade Technical over the last 10 yrs has accommodated many commercial appliance enquiries and there’s no sense in creating another. Many of the guys dabble with pub glass washers and the like and Trade Tech has always helped them out.
As for Specialist’s 3phase safety aspect………why? 🙁

Martin to be honest you surprise me even asking the question. I’ve seen too many untrained people messing with 3 phase & seen the problems it can cause to ever want to encourage it.

Let me elaborate then, what has safety to do with having a commercial forum any more than having a trade tech forum? AC, DC, 240v, 415v or even microwaves 20kv all form part of what we involve ourselves in daily. Safety is paramount but not a pre- requisite for a trade talk forum.

Never mind Martin I’m not going to even waste the time getting into it. It wasn’t the actual discussion of commercial appliances I was thinking about.

Actually commercial work is far more lucrative, for example who has worked on Girbau, Silanos, DC, Nelson, Valetine Lincat to name a few when these go wrong it is NEVER a case of “you,dd be cheaper with a new machine missus” and you walk away with a £25 call out having spent more time on on it than you feel comfortable charging for,As for 3 phase I agree with the safety concerns with single phase if you short summit you get a bang and a MCB trips a phase to phase contact results in a hellava lot more bang and you can easily take out the service fuse,
I am a NICEIC registered electrical contractor so for me the issues are well known ,then there is also the rotational issues
I was more interested in a way of sharing excperience and knowledge as like domestic manufacturers are reluctant to give info but some will gladly send all the info you need and over the years you obtain info that can be shared
