I finally snapped and had one of those blindingly obvious ideas that I don’t know why I’d never thought of before! Common faults, you know the ones we explain over the phone day in, day out to people that are either too stupid or too lazy to actually read an instruction manual. 😉

Anyway, I put a section in “Articles” for common faults and posted up a couple of examples so if anyone has any they’d like to share with the Great Unwashed, please post them here and I’ll transfer them over or mail them/PM them to me and I’ll rattle them up.

You never know, it may save you a lengthy phone call or get you a bit of work when the poor customer realises that they do actually need an engineer. 😀

Servis Washing Machine ~ No spin or Inermittent spin

Most Servis appliances with a 4 digit model no i.e M3022 not M301,Have an out of balance sensor operated through the electronics of the machine ,These machines are particularly sensitive to a single item load or a small load ,Ensure your load is sufficient to fill the drum to just below the top of the door seal and you should be okay

Yeah, I know, it’s true of most machines these days but Servis users tend to be…ehm…not the brightest stars in the heavens. 😕 TBH, we used to get loads of calls for it as well, way out of proportion with any other manufacturer so you can only conclude one of two things, either the OOB sensor is too sensitive or the customer’s are just doing things they shouldn’t be. It’s safer to assume the latter and if they still want to complain then they can.

But there again when you try to spin something with the rigidity of a Coke can at 1200rpm + then seriously, what do you expect for £200! 😆

Howsabout how to drain your non emptying washing machine – ie, stick the hose in a bucket and how to clear a typical filter? If that doesn’t do it, send for UKW……….

    Re: Common Faults

Thats a good one, you can really amaze a customer by draining their machine just by dropping the hose on the floor, preferebly in a container of some sort. (I suppose we could start a whole thread about drain hoses that appear to be alive and have a mind of their own and never quite want to stay where we might want them to stay…)
This same customer, who you have so impressed, will then be totaly nonplussed by the way you have just repaired their expensive module to component level and will complain at the charge!

Ah now see these little gems should be covered in the general “before you call an engineer” fault thingy I wrote and forgot a load while typing.

What we’re looking for here is faults specific to a brand or a model that the customer can usually cure themselves. So the fact that not many out there can set an oven timer or read the manual to find out how to, for example, doesn’t count. 😉
