ParticipantHaving spent my first winter in a new flat without a tumble dryer 🙁 I went off to Currys/Comet this morning to have a look at what’s on offer.
I left my old tumble dryer behind when I moved house as the new flat has a built in washer/dryer. Big Mistake.
I need a compact condenser dryer as I have nowhere to vent it out unless I put it in the spare bedroom with the hose out the window which I don’t fancy.
Ideally, I have a small space I could fit one freestanding in the kitchen which isn’t next to an outer wall or window to vent.
Why is nobody making small condenser tumble dryers any more? The one I had before was fantastic and very compact. I live alone so don’t need a large dryer. Surely there is a market for these for people with small flats?
If anyone knows of a smallish (width) tumble dryer please let me know. It would be much appreciated.
Thanks
Elph.

Hi elphie
The only compact condenser dryer I know of is the Zanussi TC180 which is only slim depth spec available here.
Normally condenser dryers are 60cm square. All the compact dryers I have ever seen have been vented. A typical size for a compact would be 67cm high 49cm wide and 48cm deep.
Could it be that in your last property it was on a permanent vent from the rear ?

DonThanks for the reply Don. My old one was a bit of a mystery. My mum bought it in 1987 when we moved into a new house. I inherited it in 1996 when I bought my first flat. It lived in my bedroom (one bedroom flat with tiny kitchen) until last year when I left it behind. It was not vented nor did I ever have to empty a water tray??? It just worked perfectly!!!
As far as I know it is still working as I left it for the girl that bought my flat.
It was unbadged so cant even tell you what make it was.
Wish I had brought it with me as my washer/dryer is unuseable and has recked lots of my clothes. It is a brill washer as long as I don’t use it as a dryer. I may have to cave in and go for a larger model and put it in the spare room which lets face it, is pretty much a permenant laundry room anyway.
I still think there is a market for smaller condensor dryers.

Hi Elph
Go for a full size machine better value for money in the longer term. Have a look at the vented machines less to go wrong with these , As long as you can vent it to the outside with the usual flexible hose. Hotpoint, Creda, Whirlpool or White Knight are all reputable brands worth taking a look at.
