    Hi,

Has anyone registered with company house for the business? I’m a sole trader but a friend of mine suggested that I should register with them to protect the business name even though I’m a sole trader. I do not mind registering the business if it is worthwhile after all it’s only £18 for the registration.

I thought you only need to register if you wanted to set up a limited company.

Some advice would not go amiss…

Correct, if you do this it means no one else can register the same Limited Company name as you.

It isnt as simple as paying £18 for registration. You will be required to comply with all aspects of the Companies Act, which will include annual declarations and pay the appropriate annual registration fee. Not doing so is a criminal offence 👿

Unless you have sufficient turnover, or expect to get to a significant level of turnover, employ numerous staff and have the potential for running up significant lines of credit and want to eventually protect yourself as an individual from any potential losses, I wouldnt bother if I were you.

    Regards

Its a pain for sure, just when you think you’ve finished with the returns another reminder for something else arrives.
