    Hi,

I have been reading through the posts regarding AEG Competence ovens and have noticed members detailing similar issues to mine.

I have a Competence U7101-4-A (Alutec) built under double oven. The PNC code is 944171398. The problem is the bottom oven – after a while (no specific times) the oven stops working (including the light). When it first manifested itself it seemed to affect the timer display – clearly I do not want to replact that if it is not required. I got hold of an internal diagram from the AEG site which shows the two devices:

    > Thermal Cut-In
    > Thermal Cut-Out (Top Oven)

The AEG site can be found at:

    http://www.aeg-electrolux.co.uk/node330 … type=U7101

The cut-out device looks like the part that has been recommended to fix other Competence ovens – but the AEG diagram (and parts list) says top oven. Is this the right part? Does anyone know what the cut-in device does? Grateful for views.

Of course I also have concern over whether it is the safety cut out that has failed or a n other thermostat that is causing the oven to over heat. I am guessing that there is no easy way to make a fault diagnosis? Any advice gratefully received.

The “cut in” switches on the cabinet cooling fan. The “cut out” switches the oven off if the cut in doesn’t work and the cabinet overheats. 😉
You’ll need the fan cut in (or initiation) ‘stat.

    Hope that helps,

    Steve.

    Steve,

Thanks for that – it sort of makes sense! I assume the failure of the cut-in device only affects the bottom oven as the top oven functions without any problems.

Anyhow, at about £8 for the cut-in device it is worth giving it a shot!

    cheers,

    John
