I need a compressor for this Lux made fridge freezer which the cust has imported from France. Mod ARF5299X. The compressor is a Lux made one, GVT75AA (R134A). Although i have not checked with the Lux group yet, i know the original will be expensive so am looking for a cheaper alternative.

    Thanks

Looks like its a fifth of a HP so you could use anthing with that size Aspera NB1116 etc, but to be sure I could do with the internal capacity in litres.

I was thinking myself about a 1/5 HP. Ill try and get the capacity. Spoke to Lux, apparently its Australian made, and they want £200 for compressor 😆

    Hi

Total volume is 470 litres.I havent got the cross over chart in my back pocket at the moment but the easy way to do it is as follows.

under counter fridge / bottle cooler 1/8 R600a
under counter freezer / square chest freezer 1/6 r600a
upto 5′ fridge freezer or fridge 4′ chest freezers 1/5 R600a
american or larger units 1/4 R600a

If Bryans capacity is right you will need to us a quarter of a hp bearing in mind it is a two door.
On another point Bryan, whilst I appreciate that you retrofit R600a compressors (as I do too) to R134a systems (at our risk) it is not good practice to suggest this to others. In the case of Subs he could find himself in hot water if this repair goes wrong and the customer claims against him for both repair charges and loss of food. Or Milord he fitted an unapproved compressor to our Lux ff – guilty, £1K fine. 😡

Thank you all for your input. Thanks also for your concern but ive replaced quite a few compressors now and done a few retrofits. I also explain to cust that opening system can sometimes create problems such as blockages which are difficult to remedy, so there is an element of risk involved. I told this cust that i would try and get him another brand of compressor as Lux one would be expensive and it only lasted 4 years anyway. He was morer than happy.

    Thanks

    Re: Compressor Alternative

Does any one use the Lokring system when fitting compressors?. Is it easy to use? Is it cost effective? I have been told not to braze connections on R134a systems, as it is potentcialy explosive.
