I have a Scandinova larder fridge, out of guarantee but less than 2 years old. A reputable local company tell me that it’s the compressor. What would be considered to be a reasonable lifespan for a domestic fridge ? Is the failure due to wear & tear? or an unreasonable breakdown?

    Hi Chunks,

No two years is not a reasonable life span for an appliance. So if you have the reciept for the appliance and can prove that it is only two years old then contact the manufacturer and ask them for thier comments first before you take it any further.

They may ask you to get thier own engineer in to inspect it first before they will make any comment, which is only fair.

If you are not happy with thier response then take it to the small claims court for a judgment as any appliance is required by law to be of merchantable quality and last for a reasonable period of time. So if what you say is correct. Then contact the manufacturer without delay. As you may very well have a strong case.
