Is it possible to use a compressor off a refigeration appliance to inflate footballs, a mate of mine runs a football club & they need to inflate 20 or so footballs every Sat’ morning, he reckons he once saw a compressor from an old fridge used to do this!
As i’m not a refrig’ guy i don’t know if this is possible or not?

In theory it’s possible but I would have thought it would be a lot easier (and lighter) to use a proper inflator.

Or is it that he wants to use 240v mains instead of the usual 12v things you can get hold of.

    Re: Compressor motor mod’

I dont think that will work at all as compressors and air dont go together too well + a load of oil in his balls may not be that helpfull.

Yeah, i understand about the oil, but don’t all air compressor systems (even industrial) have oil in their pump?? I think they use a filter system in line, not really my field at all, just a suggestion he came up with, he said if i could be on the look out for an old motor off a fridge that would do his job hence the query? Thanx for the feedback.

I think he may be thinking of a commercial fridge plant compressor which often look like a “compressor” as opposed to a sealed domestic type. I am sure an old paint sprayer compressor could be picked up cheaper though.

Why not a new’un? Try B&Q or Homebase for,one of their compressor & nailgun kits. £70-ish last time I looked, and even have a carrying handle.

Any domestic fridge comp can be used to inflate things, have used one on my car and van tyres for years.Use an oil seperator and pressure regulator set to the pressure of my tyres then just a quick flip round once a week to keep them right.

We have one in the car club ( http://www.landcrab.net ) who has a adapted a fridge compressor to inflate the hydrolastic suspension on our cars, as well as to create the vacuum needed for a full refilling.

Now why not go to your local wholesaler and buy a car tyre inflator which feeds from the cigarette lighter socket. Cost about a fiver and guaranteed for 12 months. Usually they come with a couple of adaptors for airbeds and footballs

Needs to be 240v as it is to be kept in a football club storeroom at all times.

Have a look at this on CPC Seamy:

    http://cpc.farnell.com/jsp/endecaSearch … 4736&N=411

Click on the “catalogue page” link just to the right for the full spec.

Not too bad at just over £100 ?

    Re: Compressor motor mod’

With a proper manual football inflator it takes about 2 and a half pumps to inflate a football!!!

But why not get a fridge compressor, starter relay, mains lead, oil seperator, filter, piece of hose, football adaptor, 13 amp plug, jubilee clips and make one?????????

Why not just leave the balls inflated? 🙂

Balls of which there are about 50 or more, are all gone slightly soft from one Sat’ to the next and all do need too be reinflated.
