ParticipantHi,
I’ve got a Fridgemaster MTRF222 fridge-freezer and it’s not getting cold. The compressor appears to be running – it’s making a noise, although it seems a bit quiet – (and if I unplug the fridge I can hear the motor slowing to a stop) – BUT – none of the pipes coming out of the compressor are getting warm. I was expecting one of them to be pretty hot, but both pipes are the same temperature.
My first thought was that it has lost the refrigerant, but the fridge hasn’t been moved or touched in any way, and I gather that this scenario is pretty unlikely.
Is there anything I can check further, or does this look like a write-off ?
Many thanks.
Kev.

It has lost the refrigerant or the compressor is not pumping.
Not cheap to repair

Sorry to jump on this, but I have the same fridge model and a similar problem, but this time the freezer is working properly yet the fridge isn’t cold. At the top back area of the fridge, the wall is slightly cold, but that’s about it. I estimate the fridge temperature to be about 12 degrees.
Any ideas whether this is probably also a write off?

you have a system fault. more than likely a loss of refrigerant.
this could be a can of worms and begs a few questions like,
where is the leak from? will it leak again? how long will it last before it happens again? etc etc.
if the leak on the system is visible, ie external, then no probs.
it can be repaired, recharged and should work as intended, provided there is no lasting damage to the compressor.
if the leak isn’t visible, then i’m afraid you have a johnny nash situation – more questions than answers.
no engineer will recharge a system that is low on refrigerant and then guarantee the work if the leak isn’t visible.
it all comes down to your budget and also your inclination and the way you see your appliance.September 7, 2013 at 4:36 pm #400376aneng

Many thanks for the advice folks. I opted to scrap it as a repair wouldn’t be cost effective. Thanks again!
