Condenser Drier “Container Full” NOT!!

Hi all
Bosch Classixx7 Condenser Drier, about two or three years old.

The machine requires the catchment tank to be emptied after every use and the warning light operates when not emptied.

This warning light now operates – causing the drying cycle to stop – many times during a normal drying cycle. When the container is emptied (though not actually full, or near to that) the machine will resume working, until the next event.

I’ve cleaned out the large filter at base of machine, quite gunged up with fluff. I’m unable to see any sensor-type contacts on the tank or inside its bay. What prompts the ‘container full’ information? Is there a weight-driven sensor? I can’t see any sign of it inside the bay.

Hi there – I was going to post about exactly the same thing. We have a Bosch Exxcel, about four years old, works great other than that, but it lights up indicating ‘container full’ at least once a drying cycle, stopping until re-started, and sometimes only going for a couple of minutes at a time before indicating ‘full’ again. I’m thinking there must be some sort of sensor within the machine which is giving it a false ‘full’ signal and am hoping that a kind engineer will tell me what bit to clear out, brush the dust off and put back in so that I can have a machine that works as well as it used to. Any help gratefully appreciated, as I don’t want to have to replace the whole thing.

In both examples the safety switch within the float chamber has indicated a blockage. So likely as not the base tray is blocked with fluff and needs clearing. Unless the lint filter in be door is cleaned after every load this problem manifests itself in no short order. Make a habit of neglecting to do that and it really gets in a mess down there….,have fun!

Hi there – many thanks for this. It does get regularly cleaned, though I will give that whole area a good clearing out now. Is that likely to fix the problem, or is there now a more complex blockage somewhere deep within the pump part of the machine?

Is the base tray the large metal/plastic combo bottom left (from the front)? Looks like its a car radiator. What’s it’s function?

No that’s the condenser matrix. Warm moist air condenses through that unit and cooled water falls into the plastic base tray moulding and through toward the pump/float chamber

Pretty obvious really, a small chamber with a float switch at the back of the unit.

I’ve pulled the dryer out and removed the large kidney-shaped rear panel, but it all looks like fans and electrical under there. Can you advise how I should locate the float chamber on this model please. Classixx7

Thanks Martin, for a weekend reply! I wasn’t necessarily expecting one so went ahead and removed first the right panel (looking at machine from the front), but not there, so then the left, where I found the float chamber beneath an electrical box. It was quite full of sludge. I’ve cleaned it out and rebuilt the machine and everything seems now to be working find – thank you very much for you help.

For the benefit of other users, I’ll post photos of the parts visited when I get a chance.

That’s great, thanks. We stripped our machine down in the week, but couldn’t find a float, as we took off every panel except the left (looking from the front) as, to get to this meant dismantling the front of the machine. We nevertheless cleaned everything we could see and get to, put it all back together and hoped that would solve the problem. It didn’t, so we’re going to have to go back in again and tackle it from the left hand side panel, too. Your post’s given me the heart to have another go at it!

Thanks to all for the help and advice above – right part of the machine now located and plenty of sludge/gunk removed! On our machine (a Bosch WTE 86304GB) it turns out that if you remover the condenser (which they suggest you do periodically anyway) and look underneath that, there’s a small plate towards the back of the machine with a couple of clips that you need to unclip. The float is in there. No need to unscrew anything, or remove the float, you can get at everything quite easily once you know where to look. If anyone’s interested I will try to upload a picture of what/where. You don’t want to see the sludge, though. It wasn’t a pretty sight! I’m embarrassed…..
