Possibly two faults, tripping due to heater being damp, this is caused by a failure to clean the condensor properly and at regular intervals. Can often be cured by drying out the heating element with a hairdryer and giving the condensor and its housing a good clean. Pay particular attention to the very back of the condensor chamber, there is a groove along the back that gets clogged with gunge.

Having to hold start button in suggests a possible relay fault.

Have changed the heater element but now operating only when holding start button down which eventually blows mains fuse so is this a timer dial switch problem and how do I check what needs to be replaced?

suggests a relay fault but it shouldn’t blow a fuse. Is it actually blowing a fuse or just tripping the circuit breaker?

Either way the whole of the machine needs testing for insulation faults with a megger.

Thanks for replying – just tripping the main circuit breaker breaker when start button held down too long

As i have already said, it needs a relay but it still should not trip so it still needs a megger running over it.
