I’ve just got a Hotpoint DF53 to replace an old Indesit. The waste water pipe on the Indesit had a rubber connector on the end but the Hotpoint does not, it’s just a plastic spiralled tube. Because the location of the dishwasher is not directly next to the sink, there is an extension pipe which goes into the sink’s waste. This is a standard spiral plastic tube with 2 rubber ends.

The problem is that the rubber end on the Indesit waste just plugged in to the extension pipe with jubilee clip to hold it firm, but the Hotpoint’s plastic tube with no rubber end is a very loose fit and it is unlikely it will ever make a watertight seal even with a jubilee clip. There is no standing pipe here and the connection into the sink waste was fine with the previous dishwasher.

I asked in the local plumbing supply shop and they said you could not get the rubber connector on its own. Certainly all the ones I have seen have been permanently connected. I bought what I thought might do as a replacement for the dishwasher’s waste tube, but when I took the top off the Hotpoint I found that it had an unusual 90 degree connector inside the machine. It’s a bit tricky to get to anyway.

All I want to do is connect up the waste! Any ideas?

Qualtex used to supply a “screw-and-glue-in” rubber cuff for just this circumstance. Dave_Conway will be able to advise you more fully when he spots this.

Yep, they still do. There’s a 19mm, 22mm and 29mm (rubber part) that will screw in to the waste hose, these need sealing with something of course.

If you measure the adaptor diameter you have and let me know, I can organise one for you. 🙂

Great, I’m not sure which measurement you need so:
The pipe on the dishwasher is 24mm external diameter.
The rubber connector which comes from the sink has a max internal diameter of 31mm and it’s tapered. A 28mm external diameter rubber connector fits it great.

I guess some special glue is necessary for the plastic pipe?

    That’s no problem then.

If you email your details to spares@ukwhitegoods.co.uk please I’ll get one sorted for you 🙂

    Dave.
