I have an Electrolux DDO60GAWN oven.
The manual ignitor gradually got worse and worse until we had to light the hobs and grill using a match. The main oven worked fine.
Having cleaned up the electrical connections (spark generator, switch, earth points, etc), the ignitor for the hobs and grillnow works fine when the ignition button is pressed.
However, the main oven, which lights fine automatically, now continuously ‘sparks’ (as do all the ignition points) whislt the main oven is on.
I am not sure what actually tells the oven that it is alight. I thought it was the ‘bulb’ in the middle of the flame, but am not sure. Would it be the flame itself on the ignitor?
After cleaning around the ‘bulb’ and ignitor in the oven, the clicking briefly stopped when the oven was in use, but it soon returned.
Any suggestions as to what may be the cause would be gratefully received – I don’t wish to start randomly ordering and replacing parts…
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi

When the oven flame lights the flame itself earths the electrode stopping it sparking.
I would suggest that you check that the metal end of the electrode is in the flame when it is on full flame and when the flame dies down. Use a pair of pliers to adjsut bracket
Do not crack/damage the surround to the electrode as this will make it useless

    Geoff1,
Many thanks for your prompt response and for confirming that the flame is meant to earth the electrode.
My electrode is definitely in the flame. When lit, the electrode continues to spark, sometimes continuing to earth against the electrode bracket and sometimes earthing (sparking) to the flame spreader below.
It seems that the spark generator continues to send a spark even though the oven is lit.
Is it worth replacing the spark generator, or is this not going to help any (since getting the spark isn’t my problem – it’s stopping it…!).
    Thanks

Poor earthing can cause the fault described, check that screws securing oven burner & ignition probe are making good earth connections & aren’t loose or corroded.

Re: Continuous Clicking From Main Oven

    Seamy,
The electrode was rusty, and everything was covered in a layer of grease…
I did take it out and clean up the bracket, electrode tip, mounting point, etc with a bit of emery.
Was just checking other options when you posted – is it worth replacing both the electrode and the cable? I found reference to a similar fault caused by the cable breaking down and having too much resistance to return the ‘signal’ to the spark generator to stop sparking.
    Is this possible?
    Thanks
