This is a simple Excel file of something I do in my head or tap out on a calculator to work out whether or not a contract is worth it and can work or not.

The only information you put in is in the top bit, the headline rate for the calls is the average, or the only rate you get. By average I mean if the contract is split by warranty/extended warranty then you work out the average rate and put that in there.

Next is the projected number of calls per week, which is information you should be able to get or take a good guess at.

Next is the stock you need to buy to make it work.

Then the cost per visit, which can be worked out using the cost calculator used by DASA.

Next is the percentage of calls that you WILL NOT complete on the first visit, this is vital information and can seriously affect your costings.

The cost per call should not change *too* much through time unless you make major changes but wage increases, rates, fuel and the likes do have a profound effect over time on it and therefore your bottom line.

Try it on some of the contracts you already run once you have your cost per call, it can lead to some startling realities being brought to light for you!

Any comments or ways to improve on this are more than welcome.

    K.
