I have a Tricity Viscount electric cooker. One hob did not work. I assumed the electric ring was broken and therefore replaced it. The hob still did not work.
I therefore checked the circuit with a tester and got a circiut reading both when the switch was turned off and also when the switch was turned on (i.e an open circuit both ways).
I tested the circuits of the other hobs that were working correctly and when they were switched off I got no circuit reading. When they were switched on I got a circuit reading.
On the broken hob; I get a circuit reading when both off and on. Why is this?
When I look at the back of the dials there is no visible sign of damage to any dials including the suspect one.
    Any help much appreciated?

The simmerstat is faulty…if you post up the model number of the cooker, or the type number of the simmerstat then we can advise you which replacement you require 😉
