The motor on my cooker hood still runs but suddenly is making a rattling noise and fan is not spinning fast enough to extract. I notice the fan impeller is free to move up and down its drive shaft by say 6mm or so. I can push it down the shaft towards the motor but it moves back as soon as it is run. Should it do this, or has it simply come loose. Have not dismantled yet.

It is a NEFF type D-FX41-4, model D8602N0GB/06 and the part number of the fan unit is 5750202775. I have seen a video of the impeller removal and refitting but it does not say whether the impeller should be free to move up and down the shaft once tightened.

the impellor has got to be locked to the shaft or it wont turn. If the shaft is revolving when the fan is not then it just might need to be tightened

Thanks for the info. The problem was a loose impellor, it was simply free to rotate on the shaft. Tightened it up and cooker hood works fine now. Surprised this fault was not mentioned on any of the websites or youtube videos, and it is such a simple job to fix with no expense, although actually removing and replacing the motor assembly and connections was a pain with the hood in situ. Thanks again.
