ParticipantIs it viable to repair cooker hoods?
I seems to be getting few calls requesting assistance on cooker hood. To my knowledge cooker hood are fairly simple – just a fan and few fancy buttons.
But a lot of my clients don’t know the make nor the model, my supplier do supply replacement parts for cooker hood – I do not mean the usual filters and bulbs just the buttons and various pcb board.
My assumption is that when they call out for repair to cooker hood, usually it’s end of it’s life after daily use of greasy extractions. Chances are the person who fitted it may have gone under, I have seen a fair few badly fitted kitchen along with integrated appliances so cooker hood are no exception then?
Also there’s this safety aspect of it, working at certain heights, would there be insurance issues? I have a tradesman insurance as domestic appliance repair man and I think they would expect me to work on ground level rather being on a step ladder.

most cooker hood details are inside if the customer removes the filter there is a sticker that is visible stuck to the inside of the hood
there are various faults that can happen
switch faults : integrated hoods turn on when you pull the front out this microswitch can fail or the cam operating it can break off
lamp faults : when the hood is fitted the manual states that a 3A fuse be fitted if this is not done and a lamp fails it can blow the tracks on the pcb if its none electronic solder board new fuse and lamp job donemost hoods can be accessed at ground level there are a few occasions when you have to climb but mostly this is to get at the plug or spur box to access the fuse
hope this helps

A lot of the front mounted push switches are soldered directly onto the pcb with very little support, dry joints a plenty through normal use, occasionally you’ll need a new pcb.

A lot of bent and broken fan blades, due to poor duct or too low and builders debris.
Grease tends to roger switches on boards in older hoods, many of the old types are poor designed regards part access and replacing parts, but not difficult.
Many cheap hoods around such as CDA and Baumatics, which are the same as are many others, parts can be sourced cheaper and can interchange once you no which are the same/similar.
Some come from Italy, and are a nightmare.
