    Hello

I want replace an existing gas cooker with another gas cooker but there is currently a red button electrical cooker switch/socket that is situated above the hobs which I believe is no longer allowed in the regs?

Will installers install a new gas cooker when there is a switch above the hob even if it won’t be used? I would’ve suggested plugging it into another socket that’s available to the side. Is that possible?

The cooker switch is where it is from when I moved in and the cable feeding it (or from it, I’m not sure) is not fully hidden inside the wall but sort of just hangs loose behind the cooker. As such, can an electrician just cut it and use it to hardwire to the cooker? Is that possible?

    Thanks

I would say no the switch would have to be moved
also you say gas cooker but don’t say if its all gas or not. if its all gas then the fuse in a cooker red switch is far too high to be safe

    Hi

Yes, it will be all gas. So cooker switch still needs moving even if it won’t be used?

Can I just blank it off – e.g. take off the socket plate and put in a metal blanking plate instead?

    Thanks again

if you blank it off with a flush plate . I would use plastic as metal would still conduct heat. Then go into the electric box and disconnect both live and neutral cables so the cable is isolated
