Went to a real crappy cooker today where the base element needs replacing.
Underneath the base element is a really thin piece of insulation that is falling to pieces, and underneath that is the floor!!!
There is no metal base, nothing.
The element is about a foot from the floor.
Will it be safe if I just put a load of tin foil underneath?
Or am I better getting some more insulation.

Sounds like you should do nothing and class is as BER. What is the make and model anyway?
