KeymasterHi all,
I’m currently looking at getting a kitchen from the Kitchen Studio aka Bernstein Group and they are trying to sell me their ‘Cookers’. the deal sounds good, but I’d like to know if the quality of the cookers is up to scratch, how do they compare with the standard brands like Electrolux, etc. Also the salesman told me these cookers are ‘made in the same factory as SMEG’ – is this true? I’ve seen the other similar thread about spare parts, so this is obviously something to be aware of.
Any advice I would greatly appeciate!

Ikemslie,
The exact make of cooker they will supply you will probably be OK. Its like anything these days ‘you only get what you pay for’ and most (nationwide) kitchen companies fit budget priced stuff anyway. If you want ‘household branded’ the price goes a whole lot higher and the quality too. 😉
Not too much of a risk with cookers though 🙂

It took me rather by surprise to learn of the actual brand name of “Cookers”.
I have come across dishwashers and other appliances all with this brand name on them recenlty, all are Bernstien supplied as far as I am aware.
If you can find out which model they are to supply, I can probably help with the actual manufacturer, although, I doubt it is a Smeg, but it could be.

As with most appliances it depends what you expect from it.
You cannot expect a £100 cooker to perform like a £600 one.
Question to ask yourself ?
If it were to go wrong, will I be able to get it fixed ?
Does it matter if it is quiet in operation ?
How hot/cool will the oven doors get ? (matters if children ever around!)
Do i need 1 oven (grill in oven?) or a double oven ?
Do i bake/cook enough to warrant the expense of a major brand ?
Does “even cooking” matter ? (very rarely 100{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} achieved anyway)
Is it a fan oven ?Not very familiar with “Cookers” but would want to see it and touch it before buying.
SIMPLE fan ovens are usually ok thoughgood luck

KeymasterThe biggest problem I encounter with the cheaper machines is complaints about the door or fascia getting too hot on both built-in and freestanding. The reasons are many for this but in the main, the cheaper the appliance the more likely you are to encounter this as, by stripping out the likes of a cooling fan or a glazing layer, they make the product cheaper.
However, even what many customers qualify as unacceptable is actually within the BSI Guidelines which you can find notes on in the Articles section.
Other than what CJ has pointed out, which is just plain common sense and good advice really, there’s not a lot to tell.
I am aware that Smeg manufactured dishwashers under other brand names but I have not seen any ovens or cookers by Smeg being sold under another brand.

It seems Bernstien are playing on the success of Glenn Dimplex using the name “Stoves” but “cookers” doesnt really work does it. Be wary though as Bernstien have been in a bit of finacial turmoil lately and although they seem to be ok now, you never know.

IF the oven is a single built under it will most likely be manufactured in Italy by a company called NARDI, this company is relatively new to England but aren’t a bad product for the price, All the BGP ovens have passed the British Standards (trust me I know, I tested them 😉 )
If it is a Built under double or Standard double the are also made in Italy by a company called Menehgetti. These also aren’t a bad product but personally i call them the Alfa’s of the oven world. 😉 😉 😆 .
Some of Bernsteins older models were made by Smeg but were branded Homark and White Westing House. Excellent products but obviously expensive.
Hope this has shed a little light for you.
Good luck.

And the moral of this tale is…….don’t always listen to the salesman in large stores, they are nearly always commission based in their salary structure with incentives being offered from various places 😉
Just a personal opinion of course 🙂

Hi Del
Expert Appliance care now service the Bernstein Products as Caremark (@BGP) no longer exists as a service organisation.
EAC are sourcing the spares direct from the suppliers so there is no need to worry about getting paid. Any agent carrying out work on behalf of EAC will get paid.

Hi Dave,
I have a Bernstein “Cookers” model and it appears that the bottom element has just failed.
Any idea how I get hold of a spare ?
Thanks,

Ok – thanks. Does the model “Cenelec standard HD376” mean anything to you ?
