    This very modest-sized microwave has developed a simple fault. The door should be held closed by the two plastic hooks, mounted on a sprung slider inside the door opening edge. Without the spring’s downward force, the door catch neither holds the door shut, nor (happily) operates the safety microswitches.
    Seems a shame to dump an otherwise functional cooker, but I’ve drawn a blank searching for a replacement spring. NOTE, I’m very aware of the stringent requirements when working on a microwave door, and have a microwave “leak” detector to verify a good electromagmentic seal after repair.
    Grateful for any suggestions re a spring supplier, though I fear the recycling centre probably beckons…

    if its just the spring, often you can re shape the end of the spring and re use it

    Thanks for the tip Dave. I hadn’t bothered to open the door panel yet, hoping a replacement spring might be easily available. I shall check later and report back. Worst that can happen is I take a dismantled microwave to the recycling centre 🙂

    well if you have not opened it then it may not be the spring

    the spring has to attach both ends. onto the door frame and the hook, have had hooks break and where it attatches to the frame

    so searching for a spring without checking could be a waste of time

    Reporting back as promised;
    Found this, unbroken, inside the door.
    Can’t work out how it can have become unhooked, it is stretched quite tight when fitted.

    Anyway, it’s refitted now. Let’s see if it stays there, othewise there WILL be a trip to the recycling centre.
