ParticipantCooling fan – Does it have its own thermostat?
Hello – we have a smeg range style electric cooker. 2 ovens, grill and 5 gas hobs. Yesterday the electrics tripped while the oven was on (with quite a load bang from the oven!!) and when we put the electrics back on both ovens were still working, and their fans but when you turned them off the cooling fan was not coming on. This was the case for both ovens. is this the whole cooling fan unit? is it just the thermostat? Not sure because the cooling fan does come on with the oven. Can you help?

ParticipantHi – i cant find a serial number anywhere on the front and we have to dismantle a cupboard to get it out which we would only rather do when we are changing a part. It is 3 years old, Smeg oven model number BM93BL – does this help?

Moderatorwell this is one of those faults where its strip it and see. when cooling motors go it very unusual to get a big bang so you will have to inspect every component.
could be
terminal block, wire rubbed through, Thermostat for the coolinf fan, Fan motor etcDave

ParticipantIs it easy to tell if it is the thermostat for the cooling fan because the cooling fan is still working when you turn the ovens on but it goes straight off when you turn the ovens off?

Moderatori would turn off power and take the back of and look to see if you see any problems. i assume the fan comes on when you turn the knob but there will be a stat or a timer board that will keep it going after switch off
