Reply from OFT recieved today:
Dear Adrian
Thanks for sending through your updated code of practice. I can now see how much more comprehensive it is from the one that Michael and I had first seen.
I think the next steps therefore would be for you to do a gap analysis of the updated code against the scheme core criteria. You can use the attached document if that would help. The form gives a guide as to what might be regarded as meeting the criteria and a traffic light system to identify weaknesses. Whilst we do not want a full explanation against each of the criteria, a sketch of your plans against any amber or red sections would assist.
We have found that this helps focus the OFT and the code sponsors on to the key weaknesses. Some of the criteria, for example consultation with advisory bodies, may not be currently undertaken. However, it pays to consider how you intend to achieve this so as to give meaningful results. We would also welcome it if you identified other bodies known to you that could be consulted to give a view on the consumer issues within the sector.
I appreciate that you may feel that we have discussed or already done some of this previously, but the intention is to make the process smoother and quicker in the long run. Completing the gap analysis form again at this stage will indentify any remaining weaknesses in the code and, more importantly, given us important information about the resourcing, make-up and influence of your trade association. Although we did discuss some of this at our meeting, it would nevertheless be helpful to have a bit more information about your membership, the market share that this represents, and the differential between domestic and warranty-based work.
Once we have this further information, I think we will be in a better position to decide when you should formally apply.
This can be done at Sibson Friday 🙂June 12, 2010 at 1:33 pm #254675VillageIdiot2

Lots gone on in the past few weeks, lost my face, internet at work for a week & a half, phones for a few days (All BT fault issues, now resolved), lost Scott my office buddy, so things have been to put it mildly, challenging and very ‘Against’ me recently!
Anyways, all’s kinda back to normal & my like has calmed down now, so just to say, I will be persuing Kate Monday morning, without fail. Just haven’t had the time to do it over the past few weeks.
Will be prompt with posting outcome 🙂

Okay
Spoken with OFT, I think another meeting for me, Ken & Lawrence might be needed with 1x Laptop and a genius with Excel 🙁
The Gap Analysis needs to be a proper and formal reply, going in depth to each section. The only notes I have from the last WTA meeting do not go into depth about anything 🙁
Either that, or we say, it’s only 2 Months ish untill September meeting, maybe the 3 of us could stay back on the Saturday to do it? I’d guess 3/4 hrs should do it? But we need to leave with the doc written and saved, so it can be sent into Kate.

In all honesty, I will have no free time until sometime in August to get into it. 🙁
After that it shouldn’t be a problem. How desperate is it, is it stopping the process completely?

Yeah 🙁
Basically, EVERY section must be answered in depth, who’s, whens, whys, everything. For instance,
1a – Code sponser should have a significant influence on the sector.
Answer: Green. because …………………………………….
Evidence ………………………………………….
Basically, every question, needs a full, in depth reponce. So a lot more to do than just reply ‘Green’, next…!🙁 I’m chocka untill replace Scott too for weekdays in the near future, so maybe we sit on it for 2 months, and either get to Sept meeting early Thursday to get through it by the time people arrive, or stay behind on the Sat?
Or if we need to do this before then, maybe give up a Sat or Sunday 🙁
I’m easy, but do need help with this write up, as the detail is too deep for my present knowledge 🙁

KeymasterOkay, perhaps best not to do such an in-depth thing at the Sep meet, too many other things will be going on as usual. I’d also say that, come Sat morning we’re unlikely to be caring much beyond getting home to bed. 😉

Yeah I know what you say about the Saturday K, my main concern was your 6hr drive home leaving at 4PM!
What if you looked at flying to Birmingham on the Thursday ILO driving, that way, if there was an adequate flight Saturday, say 5PM ish, at least you’d be home at a reasonable hour? And wouldn’t have to worry about the fuzzy head 🙂
Either that, or we wait for Lawrence opinion, maybe (Reluctantly), give up a Sunday and meet somewhere suitable for all? Like a ‘Day return trip’? But that involves time & expence when we’re meeting in September anyway…?! Dilemmas a! Maybe this is why DASA dropped it?!
Hoops are starting to show now 😉

KeymasterNa, I have a load of stuff to bring so flying is out.
Best thing to do is try to get a night somewhere I reckon.

If we went for VC, could have a bash this weekend? If sucssesfull, happy days, if turns impossible & no good, look at options then?

Saying that, are you both meeting Steve for the Qualtex thing? I could ‘Piggy back’ onto that for the evening, and leave before you meet Qualtex?

They are still approving applications that were ‘Officially’ submitted before they sent the email halting applications… They must have applied prior to that email 🙁
