Hi
If its a rebated hob then they are designed so the base is removed whilst the glass and framework is left in place.. In theory.

Bryan is talking rubbish, they remove like any other hob, this really is an easy job to do, your putting a new hob in so you just need to get the silicone. Easy money mate!

Hi,
Mean’t to report whether this siliconing in was easy or hard, but as it turned out they hadn’t actually done a flush fit in this particular kitchen despite it being a flush fit hob. It was simply sat on the top with four blobs of silicone holding it in underneath. So, a very easy swap over and picked up a dishwasher and oven job whilst I was there … easy money indeed 😀
Thanks again for all the advise. I was at least confident that I could do the flush fit when I turned up even though it wasn’t needed. I would have been worrying about it without your input.
Cheers, Jon

Whats that I hear “CRACK”. :rotfl:
Did one last week, client has crack across bottom right corner, covered by Insurance until I turn up.
Client gives me Homecare cover, only she never sent slip with payment on it, so even though her paperwork stated it was cover she didn’t have any OOOPPPPPSSSSS.
Client then gives me D&G policy, yeap you have Section A cover only, this is covered in section B “Accidental Damage” OOOOPPPPSSS second mistake.
I offered to let it slip, not charge her and simply leave it at that, but no this bright intelligent women wanted blood.
Her 3rd mistake after giving me grief was to ring D&G who explained to her the policy and would not be covered, then D&G informed her that she was going to be billed £92 call out charge. :rolls:
She is now trying to prove that it was installed incorrectly, her really really old work top is no longer level, nothing has been placed between the ceramic and the unit, only issue she paid Comet to install it. :boops:

I sometimes wonder why instructions are never read, out of every 10 hobs i see only 2 will be installed correctly, from just laying them on the worktop to grip filling them in, wired to a plastic terminal block taped up to wired into the back of the oven.

Went to inspect a hob/oven combo the other day, found the fitter had wired both the hob and the single oven into a 13 amp plug, needless to say the plug lid didn’t screw down tight. Also granite top without any seal fitted.
Problem was a contractor had removed the oven as it was blowing the RCD, he’d removed the back panel and disconnected the faulty grill element for safety reasons but failed to spot the plug !!!!!!!!!.
I got called as burning smell was reported.

As the subject has drifted from ‘silicone for hobs’, to dodgy hob installations… I’d hazard a guess at yes.

Oh I see, well I have a hob issue with a property I am buying to let, should I ask it here or start a new thread? It’s nowt to do with silicone though.
