    Scary thought there Jason. 😉

Good to hear Mark’s dad is on the mend and I know exactly what you mean, I have the same problem with my old man after his heart attack. He still seems to think he can act like a teenager! 🙄

    Hi Chris,

You’ve missed nothing Chris, as we have now been given the green light following recent meetings….at last, as Ken says we can start.

Fridays article will no doubt have this trade buzzing within hours of its release, enjoy!

No you are o.k. I don’t know either. Tried to work out about the postbox, got nowhere and gave up.

Baited breath now to see what is going down, I shall lose sleep waiting to know I suspect.

Well now, as I am privy to the “Postbox” expose’ I feel it only right to let you guys know the “Stages” announced by Ken (with his permission of course?)

Stage 1: Count all the postboxes in your area.

Stage 2: Tell Ken how much red paint you want him to ship you.

Stage 3: Wire brush all the loose paint and rust from each box.

Stage 4: Slap the red paint all over it.

Stage 5: Chalkmark “WET PAINT” all around the postbox before leaving.

Okay, there’s the first part of what we’ve been up to for some months now.

Any questions on that then fire away, I’ll answer what I can. however do bear in mind that whilst you may get more info in here that this is a commercial project and that entails some things that we just can’t discuss.

The rest… well you’ll just have to wait won’t you. 😉

    Mmmmmm

Doesn’t take a lot of working out which way things could be heading.

This may the dawn of an exciting new era, I like it. Without trying to be cynical however; The obvious question, along with others that will be asked. Who will keep the trainer trained and updated on new innovations and products? You all have doubtless looked at that along with many considerations.

I dont know if manufacturers will be too keen, unless of course they supply a co-operative membership of a certain group with the work; time to shut up I think, my brain is ticking.

    Re: Countdown

With or without support from the the manufacturers Alex this IS going to happen whether they like it or not.

They now have the ability to come to us and request that we do spot training on appliances to their networks, in other words there’s no excuse for them not to provide the information and training.

But that aside, there’s loads of other stuff for us to be cracking on with for now and we’d best give them a while to sit down and catch their breath before we hit them with something else that’ll blindside them again.

    A few vodka’s later…

    Yes, I hope so.

Although there are a few things that need resolved along the ways and a few pieces that have to slot into place, many of which we’re already working on right now. Most of these are both highly sensitive and of strategic commercial importance so I can’t say too much on what we’re about with many of the things that we have on the go.

What I can tell you is that, as of now, UKW is a self-supporting commercial entity that exists solely to further the cause of the independent. Yes, we’ll make a bob or two, I wouldn’t say otherwise as that would just be plain stupid, but by fuck we’re working for it and every single thing that we bring will either offer you a way to be better at what you do or to profit by. I see no harm in that at all for anyone. And anything you’re offered from UKW has no ugly strings attached other than you play fair with us, we play fair with you. But then, you probably knew that was my outlook on things.

Right now, Dave, Kevin and myself are pouring man hours into various projects to make them work and to bring real commercial benefits to you and we’re not asking for your money to do it either. As I’ve always said, there’s other ways.

This is just the start, there’s a long way to go yet and it will take a bit of time, effort and hard graft. But by God I intend to make it worth our while to get there with a lot in it for everyone.

IMO, it’s about time the independents took a hold of their own destiny.

Well it looks as if, from Andy’s comment last night, that the mailshot has started to worm its way out. no doubt being speedily delivered by our very own caring Royal Mail as we speak.

Just so you all know, every repairer listed in Yellow Pages has been mailed a copy.

Including me. Very good and very professional in every way.

I was going to mention it in the public or trade areas, but wondered if you had sent it out to the members first as a trial run.

I’m watching the daily numbers of new applicants, so far no noticeable increase, but may change over the course of a week.
