Participantjust been to a call to a candy machine noisy on spin ten years old
i get to the house old fellah answers and shows me the machine drum spider is bust as usual i ber it
he tells me that about 2 weeks ago he called a different man out who came in pulled it out of the gap told him to leave hime to it
he was then charged a figure he wouldnt tell me exactly how much but hinted at about the hundred pounds mark and was told the machine was fixed
all within 5 – 10 minutes
he showed me the part that had been changed to fix this noisy candy machine
it was a door interlock
replaced from the back apparently
he was most upset when i told him that not only would a door interlock not cause the noise he had experienced but that the door lock he had in his hand was not even for that model machine nor was it even from a candy it would not even physically fit on the door pecker
some complete bastard has just come out handed this old guy a broken door lock from his toolbox and charged him a fortune for the pleasure
he has tried to call him back out but he keeps getting cut off
how does that guy sleep at nightAugust 15, 2012 at 6:20 pm #379481Martin

A report to Trading Standards wouldn’t go amiss.

Similar to the other thread concerning thermostat retail prices, technically you can charge any price for anything, hell I could charge a million for a seconds work, if someone wants to pay it, why refuse.
Crisis is hitting everybody.
I know company engineers who are all baffled that their completion rate 1st fix {e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} has dropped, which means there bonus is less every month, yet when they compare there call records from previous yrs there ordering less parts and completing more or less at the same level.
The country is getting worse, organizations are relying on lies and cheating to level there losses and basically everybody in the country at some point is being bent over and rear end invaded.
Maybe the guy is forced to act this way to feed his kids and keep the house, you never no.
Last week in Spain a union for workers took around 10 members to a supermarket, they loaded up trollies full of food items and basically walked straight out the door without paying, the police and security just watched them pass by.
Its not right, its not fair, but the days of a fair days pay for a fair days work along with job security is far far far gone.
People are becoming desperate.

Oh leave it out lee. Here we are talking about out and out theft of the elderly and vulnerable who, when faced with someone demanding money, are left with no alternative but to pay up. If one of your elderly relatives where subjected to this you wouldn’t be crying in favour of the aggressor, I know. :rolls:

True I probably wouldn’t, I’d rant and rave, make assumptions and knee jerk reactions and demand his bo8888cks on a plate.
Does not make me right though ?
And how many here charge repairs with parts for upwards of £80 when the parts cost below a £10.
Profit is crime, profit is crime, profit is crime.
I’m becoming Communist, it’ll be safer when the revolution starts. :boops:

Yeah, Bearing kit £15, having the skill and knowledge to fit it correctly and ensure the appliance is left in a safe and satisfactory condition £80. Yes it’s profit, but not a crime. Just the way the (capitalist) world works.

Yes, there are corporate cowboys as well as individual ones. My bank account is also missing over £100 as the result of a con trick. When I moved from Scotland to Hungary I took out European breakdown cover with Green Flag. At the time there was no mention of direct debits, automatic renewal etc, I paid with my Clydesdale bank debit card over the phone. When the paperwork came through the terms and conditions was a 30 page book so I’ve never attempted to read it all, just checked on things I needed to know. What I didn’t see is on page 25 of the book there is a paragraph that says they do automatic renewal and consequently they helped themselves to £103 of my money last month. I don’t even drive that vehicle now as I got a Hungarian registered car.

Trust me if the corporate world released the difference between their costs and the consumers there would be a lot more people shouting loud.
My old boss (small electrical business)in the 90’s boom time made a very nice lifestyle on the back of charging a large difference between the cost of Hotpoint/hoover bearings and brushes, we kids used to fit them, make the 20 seconds it took to fit them last 1/2 hr, cost to him around £1 a set of genuine carbons and charge £90 with 12 month warranty (replacement recon motor was only £20) so no issue, client paid for his experience, although he never had any beyond the fruit machine industry and us apprentices he taught.
Then there are National companies using the Prison Service for certain work, I’m sure clients would have a view knowing the work was carried out by non qualified people when they assume its by qualified professionals.
It can be a very fine line profit and crime.

Just do a DD snatch back with the bank, for them to reclaim the money from you they have to prove that you wanted a second years cover with them, as they wont have a signed contract or anything for this years cover they dont have a leg to stand on, I had to do it with two insurance companies, piece of p***.
