ParticipantHi I bought a Bosch gas hob last April — it was installed in our kitchen early this summer by the builder. Yesterday I noticed that the metal pan support is cracked right through in one place. Rang up Bosch — they want to test it to see if it was a “manufacturing fault” and won’t send out a replacement immediately — surely it was if it’s cracked so soon after purchase? This is the model …
Gas hob PCB655MEU/03 FD 8708/00443I’m most disappointed — I’m sure we haven’t dropped anything on it, or dropped it on the ground.
Wondered what my rights are? If anyone has any advice, I’d be most grateful. Bought Bosch cos thought it would last! The crack runs right through one of the supports …
Cheers

Participantsince most bosch appliances are supplied with a 2yrs guarantee, it isnt really an issue is it?
you should be covered, theyre supposed to hold up to putting heavy, water filled pans on them
they should at very least send an engineer out to assess the problem

Thanks for your reply – I thought it would be a cut and dry case of the faulty part being replaced under the guarantee too — but surprisingly the Bosch person said the pan support wouldn’t usually covered by the 2 year guarantee π because an “accident” could’ve caused the damage. Nothing did drop on it though … I can only think the heat has made it crack?? Or it had a hairline crack already? They said they wouldn’t send an engineer out because it might cost me money π … and suggested I sent the part back and they would test it to see if it’s a “manufacturing fault”. One of the reasons I bought Bosch was because of their reputation for quality … I have now gone back to the trader I bought it from and leant on them to deal with Bosch (they were reluctant, wanted me to do it). So fingers xd I get this sorted.
Has anyone had this problem with pan supports/Bosch before?

Never seen that happen. The rarity and nature of the fault will account for the reluctance to send an engineer.
Whilst I donβt doubt what you say, some people do tell fibs. Itβs just a shame this has an impact on the honest customer.
Send the part in and see what happens.
