Hi,

the mrs has just brought my attention to a kinda scraping sound in our washing machine. It happens when the drum is turning, sounds as though there’s something in between the inner drum (stainless steel) and the outer drum (plastic).

On investigating I found a tear in the top of the door seal. I have sent off for a replacement seal and I wonder if anyone has done this particular repair would kindly give me any tips as to how to a) get the old one off and b) put the new one on, also would this cause, or be related to, the noises that I can hear when I turn the drum by hand?.

Would I be ok just taking the top of the washer off? I can see the retaining thingy for the door seal.

Any advice that anyone can give me will be most welcome.

Hi

The scraping noise is coming from the space between the inner drum and outer container you’ve left something in a pocket or the machine has ‘eaten’ a bra wire. The drum could also have dropped because of bearing failure causing it to catch the heating element. The hole in the door seal is probably not rleted to the noise problem unless the front steadying spring has snapped and the whole machine is out of alignment. There is no easy solution as the machine requires a complete strip down. Go to Repairs@ page to find your local engineer.

If you do open up the box remember to SWITCH OFF and REMOVE THE PLUG.

Thank you George,

It was indeed a bra wire, would you believe it came out through one of the holes in the drum on the last wash!! I was chuffed to bits, no more grinding noises 🙂 and the door seal was easy enough to change once I figured out how to get the front part off.

So, all in all, a result…… and also a big thanks to Ace spares for delivering the right seal very quickly.

Mmmmm, wondering now if i should have cut my losses and go for a new machine…….it is after all almost twelve years old now :).

Since I changed the door seal the on off switch has refused to stay in, so I’ve replaced that, now we cannot open the door….. is it worth soldiering on with it? can you give me a quick fix so that the mrs can get her washing out?

I have had the top off and the door catch is connected with pipes and wires and looks a bitch to get at. Am I right in thinking that the door seal will have to come off again to effect a repair or replacement for the door switch?

Most door lock problems on that model are associated with the ‘Pecker Unit’ to the motor belt. If that is not engaging the belt correctly, the door won’t release. Also the white plastic ‘Door Latch Plate’ can cause similar engaging problems.

Full access to the Door Interlock Unit is only available having removed the front panel.

SWITCH OFF AND REMOVE THAT PLUG FIRST NOW! :zap:

First off thanks for your prompt reply!

I have had a ‘play’ with the pecker and have managed to jam the door handle halfway in/out but it still wont open…….how exactly does the pecker system work?

Well a ‘bit’ has just fallen out of the door catch,so, i am cutting my losses and going for a new one …………prolly a bosch WFL2067
