Thanks Jim.
I am still very unsure why the consumer box fuse went intead of the plug fuse.
Would it be because the earth and Nuetral were reversed? Thanks

When you say the consumer box fuse, do you mean the circuit breaker that you reset by flicking a switch, if so it is almost always the case that they will trip before a 13 amp fuse.

Yes I think I do mean the circuit breaker.
Really? I didn’t think that the circuit breaker would go before the plug fuse! You learn something new every day!
Thanks.My next question.
The door switch lock (That I have just purchased) seems to be open circuit just like the faulty one…..when I buzzed it out with the Multi Meter I would of thought by moving the switch I would have a circuit. Any reasons why? I suppose it needs mains does it?September 7, 2006 at 3:27 pm #187593iadom

😆 Hello everyone. Well the latest news is the washing machine is now fixed. I replaced the door switch and it had no effect 😡
I then proceeded to look further into the problem, I took the pcb out, that is when I found that one of the tracks had completely burnt away as if something had lifted it away from the board. Out came the Kynar wire and the soldering iron. Put everything back and hey presto!
I am hoping that this was because of the nuetral / earth reversed problem.Sorry to put you kind engineers out of business and thank you all very much for your help in this forum. 😆

Almost certainly the old door lock at fault, a very common problem . If you want to be sure you can always put the original one back and try it. 😉
I didn’t mean that of course. 😆September 8, 2006 at 12:46 pm #187596DDSDDS

do not try the original door lock unless you fancy doing some more soldering or knackering your timer altogether
