Was in the posh end of Cheshire (Prestbury) when i was called to look at a Creda. There it was a 10200 with a leaking (still operating) drain pump. Something about TI on it. Ah PMP 40 (no longer available) but found one at suppliers. How old is this and why is it still working? 😯

    Regards

The date code is on the label on the back plate, Simon. TI were Tube Investments, sometime owners of Creda.

If that was pre GDA I doubt it would have a date code as such. One of the worse jobs I ever did was a damper change on one of those. The model range ran for a good few years but the youngest if can be has to be 18 years. If its a metal tub then circa 25 years as a guess.

Metal it was. Brushes must be diamond tipped and the doorseal must be Neoprene. Only reported previous repair was the strap snapped on the top of the tub. Amazing.

    Thanks all

I cut my teeth on those when I joined Creda, working from the Leeds office. How the trade has changed!

That was 20 years ago (left Ariston as Merloni moved in), then they went plastic, with the 17001 range (if memory serves), what a nightmare of a washer dryer varient emerged from that. 😆

Funnily enough I left Creda as Hotpoint moved in. Didn’t make a smart move though, went to Servis Homecare, anyone remember the SPINTEAR inner drums?

    Oh yes Kevin.
I was there from 1982(24 years ago 24th June) just as Centreway took over from Wilkins and Mitchell. Bearings and spincare tubs but when they rivited them they were ok ’till the chevron tubs came in. Happy days pre Moat. Still, at least they were made to last then and still a few Quartz around including mine!
Would that machines were still made to last.
Anyone still around on here from Barking?

Remember the tub changes to the 17000 series due to bearing failure?

What was your best time to change one? Should have been quick as we had lots of practise 😉

    Hi Goose,
I don’t recognise the names. What were their surnames and when were they there?
I became DSM at Barking for 18 months in 1989 and was pushed out when Jack Waldron B**gered up the take over of Mastercare and MFI work, we couldn’t cope with it all.
Still, then went to set up the Servis UK repair side in 1996 ’till Moat (again) and now self employed.
Were you at Barking and if so who are you?

    Hi Robbra
They may have been 10 years before your time then! known them for twenty five years but never got to know the surnames but I think they were in the Old Servis Days.

    Hi Robbra and Goose,

Frank Harrison and Ed Oxley is who you mean, used to work for them. I think they started there shop approx 1985 ish, so must have left Servis around then.
