This machine has recently stopped heating in the ‘high’ switch setting. The problem has been traced one of the two thermostats on the rear panel. I have ordered two ‘genuine’ replacement parts but so far have been unable to find any information as to how to identify the two items. (I understand they work on different temperature ranges). None of the on-line videos say anything about this. The (faulty) thermostat on the left (looking at the back panel) is connected by two pink wires. One goes to the (twin) terminal 1 on the heater unit, the other is connected to a white/black cable – which is presumably the supply. The second thermostat (on the right) is connected by two pale blue wires – one goes to terminal 2 on the heater unit, the other is connected to the blue negative return cable. Can anyone advise how I identify the two replacement thermostats – when they arrive, and more importantly, how each one should be correctly connected to the machine’s wiring. Thank you!

if you look the screw holes and the terminals are orientated differently

Thanks for the quick reply, Dave.
However, the two thermostats looked pretty much the same in terms of terminals and fixing screws orientation – see attached image.
The (faulty) left-hand one has been removed, and subsequently disintegrated as the spade connectors were removed.

yes but look at the unconnected wires

stat that missing has terminals left and right but the one that’s left is top and bottom

    Re: Creda 37742 thermostat failure

And you are wrong to think these two stats control high/low heat.

The one with the orange (not pink) wires is the cycling thermostat, the one with the blue wires is the safety (one shot cut out) thermostat.

The high low heat is controlled by the high/low heat switch selecting one or both parts of the heating element.

It is likely that the stat that has crumbled is the cause of the problem though.

Thanks guys. An immense help. As they say, ‘A little knowledge is a dangerous thing’!
I shall embark on the forthcoming repair with a renewed sense of optimism. Hope all will be well when the work completed.
