ParticipantHi,
I have a Creda 47916 semi integrated dishwasher.
The diswasher is now forever running and never finishes its program.
It drainks OK, does all the pre wash -rinse cycle OK and then the timer knob stops moving round when its about the start the proper wash cycle.
If I turn the timer by hand one notch then it continues the wash cycle.
It gets stuck again at the final rinse and if I turn the timer by hand one notch then washer continues to completion. The dishes don’t dry and are wet when the programme stops.I noticed the dishes were not washed properly and neither the dishes or water was hot like it used to be, instead its cold water and dishes. I sat down and ran the programme again and monitored every mins what the dishwasher was doing by opening the door. Everything seems OK, water is coming and is spraying OK but I’m not convinced if its the right amount of water given that it doesnt touch the heating element.
The other sympton was that the dishwasher power off button would not power the dishwasher down, it would continue to run although the LED would switch off at the control panel. I had to power down via external timer control it is wired to.
I inspected the heater element and noticed a blister. I tested with a multi-meter and got no continuity so I got a replacement heater element hoping this was the new problem. The new heater element now gave me 28ohms. The power on/off button was now also working correctly after replacing the heater element (strange).
I ran the normal programme again and it still got stuck at the same points when its about to start the wash part of the program and at the final rinse. I opened the door and noticed the element was red hot but it was heating the air and not in contact with the water. The water level was lower. The float moves freely up and down, although I cannot hear the float switch click when moving it up and down. I was wondering if the water level is too low but with the float at its highest setting it wont let the water level any higher to make contact with the heater element.
I then switched dishwasher off worried that with the heater element heating the atmoshphere it would blister again.
Any ideas what the problem is and how to proceed?
Regards.

To be perfectly honest it might be time to retire this machine. It is quite old now and although you have had good use it was not one of Creda’s best machines. Add to that the fact that around 50{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} or more of the parts are already obsolete you could well be wasting time and money on a lost cause.

OK – thanks for the advice.
Will shop for a new semi integrated one – any recommendations appreciated.
(Was thinking of the Hotpoint LSB5B019X at £300ish but worried it might not be reliable enough so then thinking of Bosch or Neff at around £400 and then I’m thinking may as well spend £500 on a Miele G4203i)

If you can afford the Miele then go for it.

Oh I can’t afford it yet – I’ll have to save and it might have to be The Wife’s christmas present, she won’t be happy 🙁
But then I don’t want to get the Hotpoint level either if it won’t last 10 years.
I’ve never spent that much on a white appliance before if I get the Miele.
I was hoping I could fix my Creda because I really don’t have faith in the new appliances nowdays. This Creda must’ve lasted 20 years and I bet the equivalent Hotpoint/Indesit won’t match it for reliability.
Thanks.

Hi,
Just an update that changing the heating element did fix it – I just wasn’t letting the dishwasher run long enough!
Half of the heating element dips down and this was touching the pool of water and therefore heating it up. It wasn’t touching the water alot, probably half the height of the element. The rest of the element seems to be heating the air – this seems to be by design and I didn’t realise this was normal and therefore was too quick to turn it off worrying the element might blister like the old one did which probably blistered due to age.
The other thing that made me think the dishwasher was still faulty was because I timed how often the mechanical timer turned and it was every minute. I thought it was getting stuck at the main wash cycle (and final rinse/dry) part because timer didnt turn after 5 mins but it takes longer than this to heat up to temp. Prior to repair the dishwasher was running all night – I thought it was still exhibiting this behaviour but let it run and after about 1h45 it completed the programme without me touching it so it was only the heating element that was knackered after all.
Looks like I can hold fire replacing this Creda 47916 for now.
Thanks.
