Creda Cachet Solar Plus grill problem (Model 48182)

We have a problem with the grill on the model mentioned in the title.

We are able to select either half or full grill but are unable to regulate the grill temperature setting. It seems to be either fully on or fully off.

Is this a common problem?

Please could you give me some idea of what needs to be fixed or replaced. A parts source and indicative cost would also be helpful.

If your oven has a control to select top oven or half/full grill and a grill temp control to the left then it is more than likely the grill regulator has failed. Part number is 6204034, not very expensive. An e-mail to spares@ukwhitegoods.co.uk will get you price and delivery details.

This may not actually be a fault unless it used to be more controllable in the past. I have had 3 electric cookers that used simmerstats (energy regulators) to control the grill and they have all tended to stop cooking if you reduced the setting slightly from full. The same devices seem to work well enough at controlling the spiral rings but with those the heat transfer uses conduction so the ring still heats the pan when it is not glowing. The grill element seems to heat mainly by radiation, which stops as soon as the element ceases to glow.
