Problem with the main oven which blew the main trip switch. On resetting the trip switch, all the functions on the cooker are fine except the main oven.
I replaced the oven element, and in the process realised the oven bulb and holder needed replacing so changed them as well. Still no main oven – subsequently tested the old element and it was OK – teach me to check first! Then thought perhaps it could be the micro switch on the door which was faulty so changed that – still no main oven!
In summary – it appears no power to the main oven – no heat, no fan, no light and no red light on the top when the control dial is turned. The oven is on manual – definitely not stuck on auto oven.
Next steps please? I don’t want to guess the next component to change only to find that doesn’t work as well – many thanks for any help.

Did you check the old element for insulation as well as continuity/resistance?
It could be the main oven thermostat which is simple to check, sadly it is more likely to have blown the main control/timer unit.
This part is listed at £209 but is also listed as obsolete now. 😥

You could also bypass the auto cook facility

The insulation on the old element seemed fine – in any event it is a new element which is now fitted.
How do I check the oven thermostat? I thought that if it was the thermostat that had blown I would still have a light in the oven and the fan working? But maybe not.
I don’t think it is the main control unit/timer – that seems to function OK – I can press “Auto Main Oven” and the red light will come on and it will allow me to set a delayed cooking programme.
Could it be anything to do with the Main Oven dial and the regulator it controls?
many thanks for your help

I know you have fitted a new element but if the insulation was down on the old one that would have caused it to blow in the first place.
It could be the oven thermostat, testing that would be the next step.

…..and new elements are notorious for poor earth insulation, so double check that element.

Thanks guys for your replies and comments about insulation on the element.
How do I check the thermostat? What readings should I be looking for?
I realise it is a tricky fix with side, back and top off but I’ll give it a go if I can determine that it is definitely the thermostat.
Many thanks

The thermostat will have a power in from the timer and a wire that runs from the other live switched side to the element.
Test with a meter that you have a feed in to the Thermostat and when turned on a feed out. Remember the clock has to set to manual to do this.
If no feed in it is most likely a faulty timer.July 11, 2013 at 8:56 am #397145iadom

Re last post, this test must be done with the mains isolated, you need to check for continuity of circuit rather than a ‘feed’ as such.
