KeymasterEver since the tumble dryer had a new belt fitted it no longer completely dried clothes when set to the E setting, the brass brush which contacts the drum was replaced at the same time.
Last week probably for the first time the full heat setting was tried to the smell of burning. This was due to the full heat element being completely full of fluff. This has been cleaned out and now full heat works.
But now the clothes come out even damper. The cycle finishes too early. I have tried different settings on the dry/damp control & it does vary the duration that the dryer runs for.
What can be wrong ??February 6, 2005 at 10:31 am #125215Martin

Paul,
First thing we need from you is the Model number please, there are dozens of differing ecosense dryers out there 🙂

Its Creda model number 37646E.
I have the thing open, the “dampness” control varies the resistance from 45 ohms to 4.5 mega ohms, then when cliked to dry shows open circuit oj my meter i.e. over 20 mega ohms.
The damp sensor in the drum was showing about 200 ohms to the control board , I have tightened up the copper brush connector to the drum, now its about 1 ohm. I took the damp sensor out of the drum, it was full of fluff. I have replaced it all, connected up, and yep U guessed it its EVEN WORSE than before. It switches the heater off after two minutes !!.
So I quess its the sensor or the control board but how can you tell ??
Thanks Paul

Paul,
Wow! Bit of a problem you have there! It more than likely is a connection problem based on the fact it was fine until the belt was fitted 😕 So its a question of checking and double checking, even backtracking on any possible damage that could have been accidentally created in doing so. :con:
This is an old machine, a number of components are obsolete and in the worst case scenario a new Timer/Control is not far short of £100 !!!Sorry but it is not exactly symptomatic of any specific fault we normally encounter. The usual things that give rise to problems are the thermostats, fluff blockages everywhere especially around the fan cowling, worn belts and moving parts..thats it!…. Never ever had need to change a Timer though 😕

thanks for that I will have another look arround, maybe a dry joint somewhere !!
Incidentally I was looking at the cooker pages & based on the info I found there I have just replaced the fluorescent tube in my Creda 48197 cooker.
What a glutton for punishment, a house full of Creda appliances !!
Anyone else out there with any info/suggestions, they WILL be gratefully received.
THANKS PAUL

hi paul
Pull the plug out first ❗ ❗ ❗
If this is the model with the crome 2″ disc’s inside the drum you will need to clean them, by wiping the surface of them. Do not dismantle the t/d.
The only thing that clean them well is lemon juice, but you can try viniger.
These get dirty if you touch them with your fingers.
Dont clean with wasing up liqid or deturgent because they all leave a coating on it.
do not clean with white spirits or meths because thay may catch fire and will certainly make you clothes stink 😥Paul

Thanks for that I will give it a go tomorrow.
I have just unplugged what I think is a thermostat attatched to the top of the casing. It ran for a long time & the clothes were “almost” dry.
Any idea what is going on ??February 7, 2005 at 12:47 am #125221Penguin45

Paul,
The auto-dry function works by a comparison of input temperature and exhaust temperature. When the clothes are wet, the air is hot when blown into the drum. The clothes being cold and wet will absorb lots of heat as they warm up, so the air exiting the drum will be quite cool. As the cycle continues, the exiting air will get warmer as the laundry warms up and water is extracted from the laundry. By disconnecting the front sensor you have created an “infite” resistance – if the clothes are almost (but not actually) dry, it would point to the board not interpreting the information properly. As Martin said earlier, not a cost effective repair.Plus point is that newer “sensor” dryers are rather more sophisticated in the way that the sensing circuits work and are more efficient.

Found the problem, it was the earth bush on the back of the drum not contacting properly, it must have got bent when I put the new belt on
