ParticipantHi,
Went out to a tumble dryer today, unfortunately if there used to be a model number sticker on it it’s fallen off, but it was an old vented Creda with big timer and chunky low/high switch, along with green neon check filter light in between them.
The belt had snapped, but when I went to replace it the shaft on the motor where the belt slots into had worn totally smooth, so the new belt simply slipped as soon as the dryer turned on. First time I’ve come across this so I was a bit stumped, tried Quicksteel more in hope but of course this didn’t grip to the shaft either.
Does anyone know if there are any ways of fixing this other than new motor? Seems a shame to replace the whole motor for the sake of a worn shaft. Also, would anyone have a clue about part numbers? As I said, couldn’t find a model number on the machine, motor had a Creda sticker on it but no reference numbers.
Thanks in advance for your help!

What used to happen with the old style uni directional machines is the belt would snap and if the customer did not hear the noise then the single jockey pulley would pull into the motor shaft and wear it away, is this a uni directional or reversing model?
A replacement motor is the only option but without any model numbers it would be hard to identify, could even be obsolete.
EDIT,just had a quick look on Partfinder and there are loads of ‘Energy Save’ models.
Is it a 3kg or a 5kg model?
The motors are still available for most of them, around £51 list price ext vat.

Hi Jim,
Thanks for that – good to know what caused the shaft to wear smooth as I was a bit puzzled about that.
I think, visually, that the motor is Europart 42-CR-03, £44 ex VAT, going to have a word with the customer and if she wants to pay part cost + new belt will have a punt on it, worst thing comes to the worst I’ll have a motor in storage for a long time! Just a real shame having to replace a working motor for the sake of a dodgy shaft!

Came across this a few times back in the day, on the one’s with single jockey pulley. I learned to check the motor shaft before trying to fit a belt annoying as you say to scrap a good motor for this reason 😡
